Double loss for WI!

Record breaking win!!!

England women took on the West Indies women today at Leicester, as the summer of women’s cricket started.

Heather Knight won the toss and elected to field putting Stefanie Taylor’s young team into bat.

England started well with Amy Jones and Tammy Beaumont opening up however in less than 8 overs Beaumont had made 32 and was caught by seaman off of the bowling of Matthews. The new batter, Taylor, lasted less than an over scoring 4 before being caught out. The skipper was next to the crease and stables things with Jones. Together they made a partnership of just under 150 before Amy Jones was caught on 91. However with 15 overs left and the score being 207-3 England started to push on, Knight made a solid 94 before getting out. From there on England batted very cautiously but quick wickets meant they finished on 318-9 (50).

Matthews and Knight opened for WI and started okay however when Hayley Matthews was out in the 8th over WI never really got going again. England managed to bowl them out for 110. An incredible feat and record for the English ladies!!!!

Jones 91.                     Matthews 4wicks

Knight 94.                    Selman 2wicks

Nation 42*.                  Marsh 3wicks

Matthews 17.              Ecclestone 3wick

Also day 7 at the CWC19 brought WI vs Australia.

The Aussies batted first and got bowled out by Jason Holders men for. 288 and need a big miracle if they wanted to win. Unfortunately for them tight bowling meant they couldn’t really get going and ended up losing. However they fought until the very end to try and win. And although it wasn’t as good as Stokes’ catch Cottrell took a screamer (link at bottom) to remove Steve Smith!

Both WI sides ended up losing however both sides they were beaten by were very strong!

England Vs Pakistan

England hosted Pakistan today at Trent Bridge for their second game in their worlds cup campaign.

Eoin Morgan won the toss and put the opposing side into bat- a tactic that worked in their first game against South Africa.

Pakistan started started well before losing their first wicket in the 15th over, Fakur Zahman 36. They continued to battle in with Imam Ul Haq and Barbar Adam at the crease and reached the 200 mark within 34 overs. With a final push in the remaining 16 overs on a high scoring ground Pakistan scored 348 for the loss of 8 in their 50.

Not bad score considering that England only reached 311 against South Africa.

Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow opened up again for the Lions, however Shadab Khan struck early in the 3rd over getting Roy trapped lbw for 8. However England’s bad luck continued for a short period losing 3 wickets in 19 overs. With Jos Buttler and Joe Root at the crease things started to improve, they were now scoring at around 8 an over needing 86 off of 10 overs. Joe Root made his 107 before shortly departing after being caught by Haffeez. Things looked good for a while with Moeen Ali joining Jos however short after making his ton (103) he was also out and walking back to the pavilion. Wahab Riaz then took 2 wickets in 2 balls to practically sealing the victory for Pakistan and Sri enough England fell just 14 runs short meaning they have now won one and lost one in the tournament.
